Last Friday, I had the pleasure of shooting the Matisyahu concert at Crossroads. If you ever get the chance to go see Matisyahu live, I recommend you doing show. The man puts on a great show!
I always love shooting concerts, because you get to play with all the backlight to create interesting images. But, for Matisyahu, it was different. He had to be finished by sundown, so that gave me a whole new type of light to play with....awesome sunlight (and, boy, was it awesome). A big thanks goes to Stacey Schmitz who came out to shoot with me as well.

Taking me back...
Ok, so if you know me at all, you know I love music. I have music playing at all times, and at times when I can't play music, I am singing in my head. Anyway, I've been going to concerts for over 13 years now. Ask Jenny about my high school/college years and she'll tell you I was at a concert at least 2 nights a week. Anyway, my very first concert all the way back in 1996, was 311. A lot of my favorite memories from high school involve 311. So, when I got the opportunity to shoot their concert at City Market a few weeks ago, I was pretty stoked. I will say that I don't listen to them as much as I used to, but that doesn't take away the impact they've had on my life. I hope you enjoy the photos!

George Clinton & the Parliament Funkadelic
On Friday night, Drew and I had the chance of a lifetime to witness an amazing band. That band would be George Clinton & the Parliament Funkadelic at the Crossroads behind Grinders. A huge thanks goes to Fritz & Dept. Zero for giving me the opportunity to shoot the show. We witnessed men in diapers, men in wedding dresses, sweet dreads, funky music, handstands, and most importantly, more funky music!
We only got to shoot the first couple of songs, but here are a few of my favs...

Paramedics
Check out this band. Paramedics. My uber-talented buddy Drew sings and plays guitar. Yeah, the same Drew that kicks ass at making movies, and at taking pictures, is in a new band, wait a minute...Drew kind of reminds me of this wonderful tv clip (wait for the song).
I brought my camera along, but due to unforeseen circumstances with the lighting guys, I didn't get very many images I liked. Plus, I feel bad because I couldn't really get any images of the rest of the band members due to said lighting circumstances :(
So, check out a couple of images, then head on over to their myspace where they have one demo up.
Note: since the lighting sucked, I played around with some triple exposures (all done in camera)

To prove I'm not ignoring the rest of the band (uber-talented as well), here is what the light looked like on them. Pretty crappy, huh?

Greg Laswell, Rosi Golan & Jay Nash
I love music. All kinds of music, but mostly music that makes me feel happy. Rosi Golan's music makes me happy...very happy. So, a few days ago I found out that she was going to be in Kansas City with Greg Laswell (who is a musical genius as well), and Jay Nash (never heard of him before, but he's a very funny dude). Anyway, I tried to round up as many photogs as I could for the show :)
Well, Kelley and Sam made it out, as well as Jeremy Arnold, and we had a blast enjoying an amazing night of music at the Czar Bar. Now, I have to say, I pride myself in the upkeep of my blog, as well as in the speed that I get my blogs posted, so Kelley just HAD to one up me and do hers last night. Then Jeremy posted his earlier this afternoon, so I'm 3rd, and I want to throw it out there that I WILL NOT BE 3RD AGAIN, EVER!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, before I share the images I also want to say that I love shooting around Kelley. She always finds some way to inspire me. I guess you could say she's my muse :) Anyway, before the show even started we were talking about double exposures in camera and such, and how I had never really messed with them before but thought it would be fun to do. So, Kelley goes and shoots some double exposures (in camera), so I jumped on the bandwagon and shot some as well. It was fun, and different, so I hope you like the results! So, when you see my favorite images, all of them were done in camera. I did play with some funky colors and such in Photoshop, though :)
I also want to take a moment to apologize to Jeremy because his crap camera of a 5d can't do in camera multiple exposures, and if it can, they don't make it very easy. Maybe next time you walk into a camera store you'll pick up a real camera like a Nikon :)
Wow, I'm wordy today! Here are my favorite images...first up, Rosi Golan. If you have never heard her music, I suggest you take a moment and do so (after you finish checking out my blog, of course) By the way, this was the first stop on her first tour ever. She sounded great!

Then we have Jay Nash. I had never heard him before, but anyone who has a song about getting in a fight at a burrito stand is alright in my books. He's got such a great voice as well. Here's a sweet shot with 10 exposures in 1!

Last was Greg Laswell. The dude simply writes great songs. It was nice to hear them all stripped down as well. His music sounds great with just piano and guitar!

Here's the video of my favorite Greg Laswell song "How the Day Sounds"
And, here's a sweet video of Jay Nash
I would have posted a video of Rosi Golan, but I couldn't find any good ones :(
